Furthering Steamboat’s efforts to be indentified as “Bike Town, USA” and complimenting our proudly owned “Ski Town. USA” mantra, organizers of the 2011 Quiznos Pro Challenge stage race announced that Steamboat Springs would be hosting arrival and departure venues for two stages. This race brings world-class international cycling to Colorado and Steamboat Springs.
Kudos to The Steamboat Ski Area’s Jim Schneider and many unnamed community members for their hard work in landing a venue for this great event in Steamboat.
Awareness of cycling has been raised in recent years by Routt County Riders, a loosely formed group of biking enthusiasts, who in the 1990’s came together to build, maintain, and promote cycling in the Steamboat area. From that has evolved the membership driven non-profit that it is today and it has become instrumental in the growth of all forms of bicycling.
Being part of the Quiznos Pro Challenge is exciting and huge for our biking community and Steamboat overall says Rod Schrage, owner of the Ski Haus in Steamboat Springs. Rod, and other bike shop owners, have supported biking events in Steamboat since the mid 80’s.
Move over Ski Town, USA, Bike Town, USA is growing up and becoming your twin in Steamboat Springs!
