What a view!

What fun!  I was recently included with a group of 15 ladies for an overnite excursion to Kremmling.  I know, I know…Kremmling, you say?  Well there is this gem of a guest ranch there with cozy cabins, a dining hall, and recreation lodge complete with a hot tub.  Latigo Ranch may not be the most well known dude ranch in Colorado or the busiest in the winter, but with 60 km of groomed skate and classic trails, it should be. 

We arrived Sunday around noon…just in time for lunch, imagine that.  The food was excellent with most everything made on the premises, including the chocolate chip cookies.  After lunch, amazingly, we all skiied rather than succumb to the nap that would normally follow such a sumptous feeding.  The fast girls left the rest of us to our own devices, but the map was easy to follow and we all returned in time for wine and dinner!

After a festive evening celebrating a 60th birthday in our group, we retired to prepare for more food and fun on Monday morning.  Breakfast was a smorgasboard of made to order eggs, bacon, sausages, french toast and pancakes, as well as fruit, homemade granola, yoghurt, muffins and bread.  The homemade bread was the most dense, moist whole wheat bread I’ve ever had!  We then all took off on a variety of trails for more fun before returning to Steamboat.

Steamboat Springs Real Estate Sales Dec 30 – Jan 5

In the final flurry of real estate activity moving into the new year, Steamboat Springs and Routt County saw $12.5 million in closed real estate sales, with all but $620,000 in whole ownership transactions. 

Notable in the closed deals for this period was the fabled “Covered Bridge” home located at Catamount Ranch.  After almost 10 years on the market and a price that started near 10 million, Pam Vanatta of Prudential Steamboat Realty, was able to get her Seller to consumate a deal.

The Geminids are Peaking!

True confessions…I love meteor showers and other astronomical happenings.  The full lunar eclipse Saturday was spectacular even if it occured

near dawn and diminished the viewing!

Tonite we are treated to the peak of the Geminid meteor shower.  In spite of the waning moon, in clear skies, one could see anywhere from 40 to 120 meteors per hour.  The Geminids produce the greatest potential for stunning fireballs and were born from a rocky asteroid rather than an icy comet.

For the best viewing, get to Steamboat immediately!  No, really, try to find a rural setting, void of light pollution, between 10:00pm and sunrise.  But, the greatest number of meteors will occur one to two hours after midnite.

Enjoy the show, I know I will if the clouds cooperate!
